Music is part of STEAM education which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Maths. Music which comes under the Arts is used here in Cedar Montessori as a way to integrate STEAM into our early years setting. In doing this we adopt an holistic approach, and this is exactly what an early years experience should be – intertwining areas of learning in a fun and exciting way. Here in Cedar, we like to link our activities, so for example when presenting science activities we use music as a tool to enhance the experience. Children learn about the planets through song and they learn about the weather through song and this intertwining of science and arts is fund and engaging for young minds.
